THE SOCIAL SERVICE LEAGUE (S.S.L.)

The Social Service League is a voluntary organization of students to promote social awareness among the student body and to raise funds to help the poor.

The basic aim of the League is to give students a chance to develop sensitivity to others, particularly those less privileged than themselves. The members of the League give their free time for the day-to-day activities of S.S.L. They organize various fund-raising activities such as running a tuck shop, collecting and selling old postage stamps, spare text books and so on.

New members are taken in from class 9. They remain in S.S.L. till they leave school after class 10 or 12. Members pay a one-time subscription of Rs. 30 to cover expenses at the Annual General Meeting held in November, when a new executive committee is elected.

Coupons are distributed against a small donation and the lucky winners are gifted prizes sponsored by local businessmen and our alumni.

The League also runs an annual Raffle. The League contributes the major part of its collection to our Hindi Medium Section as well as to some other charities around Bokaro (MC Brothers’ Leprosy & TB centres, St. Louis’ School, Balidih, Masi Marsal, Charhi). Besides this, the S.S.L. provides tuition fees for ten children of the Hindi Medium Section for the whole academic year. The children to be sponsored are chosen by the Principal. At times of natural calamities the League contributes to relief along with the rest of the school.

The League has created a small fund for the Principal, which can be used by him to help those who come to him for financial help, especially women and children.

An executive committee administers the League. The student- members of class 11 are elected to the Executive Committee in August - September. The new committee works with the old committee for a month. In November it fully takes over. Mr. Anjan Sinha, Asst. Teacher, is the coordinator of S.S.L. and works with the committee to guide and help the members to run the organization efficiently. The coordinator and the committee are accountable to the principal and the vice-principals. At the end of the four-year term each student is given a certificate and the most outstanding member from class twelve is awarded a gold medal by the school.

The Social Service League has begun the Annual Fund Raising campagin in the form of a lucky dip draw.The draw will take place in November 2010. We appeal to all our ex-students to help us in this cause by donating what you can. Cheques/ DD's may be drawn in favour of "Social Service league".
